COSMETIC BOTOX

Who can receive treatment with BOTOX®  Cosmetic?

To determine if it's safe for you to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic, it's important that you provide your full medical history to Dr. Orsburn.  This includes all prescribed and over-the-counter medications, herbals, vitamins and supplements you may take.

How does it work?

Injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles used for frowning and squinting temporarily reduces muscle activity, resulting in a decrease in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

How long does it take for the medication to work?

You may begin to notice results within 24-48 hours after treatment.  Full results will be evident around 2 weeks after treatment.  Your “after” photos will be taken at your 2 week follow-up appointment.

How long do the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic last?

The desired effects from BOTOX® Cosmetic injection generally last 3-4 months.

Where can BOTOX® Cosmetic be injected?

This medication is used in adult patients for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe lines between the eyes [the “W” frown area], beside the eyes [“crow's feet”], and on the forehead.

Why would a holistic practice offer BOTOX®?

In short, because you are a unique individual. Dr. Orsburn offers the option of BOTOX® Cosmetic to her patients desiring a more dramatic temporary improvement in their appearance as well as those who are unable to commit to the full regimen of cosmetic acupuncture.  After BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to the face, body acupuncture treatments may be received as soon as the next day.

How does BOTOX® compare to the Mei Zen face and neck lift procedures?

Mei Zen targets the entire face or the entire neck, including areas that BOTOX® cannot treat, and increases production of collagen and elastin in the skin.  In addition, Mei Zen is a holistic beauty treatment that benefits the entire body.  This treatment requires a time commitment of 10 treatments over 5 weeks, and the physical results can be subtle to dramatic, depending upon your health and habits.  Mei Zen face and neck lift acupuncture will not yield the dramatic results seen with BOTOX®; however, in addition to cosmetic improvements, you will generally feel healthier while retaining full control of your facial expressions.

BOTOX®  temporarily weakens targeted muscles in the face, and the results are typically dramatic and fully evident within 2 weeks.  This treatment does not improve your health in any way, but can certainly improve how you feel about your appearance.  It can lessen the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead, between the eyes [the “W” wrinkle], and beside your eyes [crow's feet], but it cannot be used for wrinkling and sagging of the cheeks, jaw and neck line.

Could I have both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Mei Zen treatments?

Yes, and Dr. Orsburn is happy to discuss how to best coordinate these treatments in your specific case.

What is Dr. Orsburn's experience with BOTOX®?

Dr. Orsburn received extensive training during and after residency for the proper use of BOTOX®.  In addition to injecting BOTOX®  for cosmetic purposes, she has experience using the medication for the treatment of medical conditions such as limb spasticity and cervical dystonia.

Are there any potential side effects or risks to BOTOX®?

As with any medication or procedure, there can certainly be unwanted side effects.  These will be addressed in depth during your appointment.
